In 2019, first year of governor Mauricio Vila Dosal administration, the number of complaints and delinquency victims increased in Yucatan, according to public institutions and national non-government organizations.
The information shows that crimes against life and corporal integrity in Yucatan increased by 18.8% in a year. For example, homicides -including accidental- increased 51.1%, compared to 2018.
Statistics from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública (SNSP) exposes how delinquency incidence in Yucatan went from -46.2 percent in 2018 to 25.1 percent in 2019, a variation of 71.3 percentage points.
That was completely opposed to the national record, which increased from 2.6 percent to 4 percent, a difference of 1.4 percentage points, in the same period.
By classification, the crime allegations against life and corporal integrity in Yucatan increased by 18.8 percent in a year. Homicides, including accidentals, increased 51.1 percent compared to 2018.
In the same period, criminal acts against personal freedom increased 133.3 percent, as those against private property growth 20 percent, because of the growth in allegations for trust abuse, damage to the other people property and extortion, those growth in 43.3, 42.5 and 40 percent, in that order, compared to 2018.
Meanwhille, theft increased by 10.7 percent in a year, including subclassifications as pedestrian theft, which increased 86.7 percent, and house theft with a 16.9 percent more than 2019.
The classification defined as “delinquency against other legal properties” increased by 88.3 percent, mostly because of a 98.2 increasing on threats; 70.9 percent on drug dealing, 25 percent in false claims, and 14.8 percent on break-in and trespassing.
Although “crimes against Yucatecan society” dropped 56.9 percent, subclassifications shows a different scenario: human trafficking increased 120 percent from 2018 to 2019; crimes against family, and “other crimes against family” increased on 6.8 percente.
Numbers about victims of crime
According to the SNSP, the number of victims record in open investigations on state jurisdiction went from -76.5 percent in 2018 to 7.4 percent, in 2019, a difference of 83.9 percentage points in just a year.
The records shows an increasing or 17.9 percent on crimes against life and corporal integrity victims, with a 51.1 percent increasing in homicides -including accidental ones.
Victims of crimes against personal freedom increased in 133.3 percent and those affected by crimes against private property went up 40 percent, due to an upsurge of extortions complaints in 2019.
Even tought victims of “crimes against Yucatecan society” had an anual decrease of 56.8 percent, the victims of human trafficking growth 71.4 percent.
Insecurity perception also rises
According to Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia´s Encuesta Nacional de Victimizacion y Percepcion sobre Seguridad Publica 2019, perception of insecurity in Yucatan increased from 32.5 percent in 2018 to 37.5 percent in 2019.
Meanwhile in Yucatan this index went up five points, the national average went down from 79.4 to 78.9 percent in the same period.
Only in the metropolitan area of Merida, Yucatan´s capital city, the insecurity perception growth from 29.2 percent in 2018 to 33.5 percent in 2019.
